Grad School FFFFFFUUUUUUU

Sometime back in late March/early April of this year, I randomly decided I wanted to go to grad school, so I scheduled an appointment to take the GRE, studied 45 minutes for it, applied for the ISDS masters program, and now I’m back in school. I thought I was done tagging posts with the “college” tag, but I guess I have another two and a half years of that (if my poor blog lasts that long).

Anyway, I haven’t updated in a while (surprise, surprise), so it’s catch up time. Back in July, a good bit of my family flew to North Carolina to spend a week at my brother’s cabin. It’s pretty awesome up there (except for the spotty cell phone coverage :P ).

That’s me on Chimney Rock. The view was awesome. :)

That’s the sunset over the lake my brother’s cabin is on. Yeah, it was really pretty.

I got to fly in an airplane, ride on crazy curvy mountain roads, swim in a mountain lake, and go white water rafting; all things I’ve never done before. It was pretty awesome. If I ever get to go again, I want to take my car so I can drive on those roads. :P

I’ve been writing a good bit lately (for fun, not for school/work). I’m just shy of 40,000 words on “Business As Usual,” which I’m trying to get to novel status (50,000) during editing. Also, I decided I don’t like that title. :\

My web hosting expires in about 27 days, and I don’t think I’m going to renew it. My friend James offered to host my site for me, and since I don’t really use it as much as I used to, I may just take him up on the offer and save myself some money.

I recently posted this on Facebook and on reddit (where I got my highest upvote count ever), so I’m going to put it here too so anyone that still reads this can watch it and get all nostalgic all over it with me.

What would one of my updates be without random embedded YouTube videos of music I’ve been listening to? In case you haven’t realized it yet, I like electro-*anything*, and these videos are proof.

The Key to Snow

Evey in the snow last Friday.

Evey in the snow

Every in the snow

Okay, yeah, it was a pretty weak snow, but…it was cool nonetheless. It’s a lot easier to see in this video that I took under a lamppost.

Also, I’ve been meaning to share this for a while, but I kept forgetting. It’s a very short video of the key to my Camaro. Just so I don’t get any smartass comments, I know Volkswagon did this first, but it’s genius and every new car should have this kind of key.

On a final note about cars, I have six Camaro Hot Wheels cars. I’m collecting them. :D

I’ve been listening to one of Fall Out Boy’s new songs, “From Now On We Are Enemies,” a heck of a lot. It’s about the composer Antonio Salieri being jealous of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart because he thought Mozart was very undeserving of his fame because of his lifestyle (as far as I can tell). It’s a great song and another of Pete Wentz’s fits of lyrical genius.

Song plus lyrics:

That’s all for now. Media overload! :D

Words Cannot Describe…

…so videos will have to do.

I was about 10 feet away from my favorite band for the past 8 or 9 years. The same band that I never thought I would be able to see live. Best concert ever. Dream realized. Thanks, Creed.

“Twitter is the dialtone of the 21st century.” – Leo Laporte

I probably sound like a big Microsoft hater on Twitter sometimes. I guess I have to sacrifice certain attributes of my opinion to create a proper 140 character Tweet. :P

My car battery died today. It was a big pain, but I got it replaced thanks to a bunch of people jumping me throughout the day.

I started a new blog on grammar and language. I know that doesn’t sound exciting, but I’m mostly writing it for me so it doesn’t have to be.

Last but not least, here’s another video I took at the show a couple weekends ago.

I got my first paycheck last Wednesday (and by paycheck, I mean money was deposited into my checking account). I celebrated by going to Whole Foods on Saturday and buying a $10 steak and cooking it that evening for dinner with a baked (in the oven) potato.

I know $10 isn’t a whole lot considering what I could’ve bought (like an aged T-bone for $20.99/lb), but it was the most I’ve ever spent on an uncooked steak, and it was very good. :D

On Sunday night, I met up with Eric and Brian (had a bunch of classes with him at LSU) at the UNO Lakefront Arena for the Fall Out Boy show (I’ve given up on calling them “concerts.” Everyone calls them “shows” now.) I took a crapton of videos in hopes they’d come out okay enough for me to post on YouTube, but alas, the bass was too loud and it really screwed with the sound.

First up was a band called Hey Monday. They were actually pretty good, though I’d never heard them. They sound kind of like Paramore, which is a plus.

Then was Metro Station, who I’ve seen before and I know a few of their songs. The singer kept throwing his guitar to some guy who would always catch it, and that was pretty amazing. They were good, until the kind of emo-ish singer took of his shirt to sing “Shake It,” at which point I died a little on the inside. The song was still good, I just didn’t feel like seeing a sweaty, shirtless dude with way too many tattoos.

Then came All Time Low. I’ve heard them before, and I even have some of their music, but I’m not a huge fan. They were good, though.

Finally, one of the bands I’d really showed up for was coming up next – Cobra Starship. However, as they were switching sets, a very familiar song came over the speakers, and Brian, Eric and I had a good laugh.

Cobra Starship’s set was surprisingly short, which was kind of disappointing, but their lighting was pretty cool (I thought it was *awesome* until I saw Fall Out Boy’s). They skipped “Bring It (Snakes on a Plane)” because none of the other bands’ singers was available to help Gabe with the chorus (it’s a duet). They did, however, play a new song that they posted to their MySpace a few weeks ago called “Pete Wentz is the Only Reason We’re Famous.” I am actually pretty surprised that’s the name of the song; I thought it was a joke or a working title, but lawl, it works. :P

Then finally, Fall Out Boy played. They were awesome. Their lighting was fantastic and amazing and they owned AIG with a video they played (they were doing a little political awareness; the band was all dressed up in suits and there were some crazy looking people standing on the edge of the stage with those police anti-riot suits on).

You can pretty much mute the sound on this, just skip through it and check out the lighting.

It was pretty awesome.

One last thing that has nothing to do with the concert but still has to do with music: “Sam” (Jennette McCurdy) from iCarly is apparently a country singer. She just released her first single and she’s really good.

I filled up my tub with water and let Celery swim around in it. It was funny, I’ve never seen him swim around like that so much. :D

Anyway, Michelle came up to Baton Rouge on Thursday. We did a lot of movie watching, eating out, shopping, and other stuff. We saw Changeling on Friday, which I highly recommend to anyone looking for a good historical drama or just a very good movie in general. We also went to the Tanger Outlets and Cabela’s on Saturday, which was pretty fun. I found a small birthday present for my sister and we bought some fudge from Cabela’s. We went ice skating later that day. Man, that sure is fun. Sunday, we went looking for turtles. I want a friend for Celery, but small turtles are hard to find since they can’t be sold in pet stores. Michelle went to class with me on Monday, and then she went home.

Now, pictures:

We found this card behind Herget or McVoy hall on campus (forgot exactly which one). It seemed really poetic for some reason, all burned and surrounded by dying rose petals…

Three Things

One: I’ve been watching this drama/romance anime called “Bokura ga Ita.” I really like it so far; only on episode 5 though.

Two: I’ve been having this stupid song stuck in my head, thanks to my coworker, Eric.

Three: I had a #3, but I forgot it when I wrote #2, cause that song took over my head. So instead, I’m just going to pimp my forum again. We’ve got about 11 unique members so far, though maybe 4 or 5 of them are active. It’s not super awesome or anything, but, if you’re reading this, it can be better if you join and post. :D

Nine in the Afternoon

I sure do love this song and video. :D

Creepy Voicemail

I hesitated to post this, but I’m going to go through with it. We got this voicemail at work…and…well, just listen.

I’d be flattered, except she sounds like she’s 30 by the way she talks. I don’t remember fixing anyone’s computer three weeks ago that was that old. So, instead, it’s pretty creepy. D:

Oh, and here’s my article this week. :D
