Hackensack

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything of linguistic substance, but lately I haven’t had much to post about besides Evey.

First of all, Katy Perry’s MTV Unplugged live CD is absolutely amazing. I love her voice so much. She did a brilliant cover of a Fountains of Wayne song, and the entire album has a “lounge” feel to it. It’s really worth checking out if you appreciate beautiful singing.

Anyway…

Yesterday I hit the 400 mile mark on Evey. When I got the car, it had 20 miles on it from the factory and the PDI at the dealership, and I took a picture at 22. The odometer reading grows so quickly. :P Come tomorrow, I’ll have owned her for a week, and I couldn’t be happier. Every time I walk up to it, I smile. There’s liking your car, and then there’s this – finally having a car that I once called a dream car. I just flat out love this car. It’s so much fun to drive. :D Everything about it is fantastic, right down to my switchblade key. I think between the Camaro and the Chevy Volt, GM is really looking up (Chevy Volt > all hybrids).

Last week was pretty awesome. I took off on Wednesday to pick up my car, and then I had the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving to enjoy it.

And speaking of Thanksgiving, I hope everyone had a good one. I usually make a post about being thankful, but I guess I’ve just been neglectful of my poor blog lately. :( We had delicious food (duck and deer, mmmm), and I have plenty of leftovers in my freezer right now. The rest of the holiday was spent with family and friends.

Now, it’s Christmas time and I guess I should be happier about that, but I really enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. :P The tree is up at my parents’ and I put up a little one at the apartment, though I only turned on the lights once.

Other than that, I’ve been watching way too much anime and playing Starfox 64 a good bit. :)

I need to get back in the habit of updating this thing regularly, because I hate making this catch-up posts where I have to condense a bunch of crap into something readable (or slightly readable :P ).

Lots to Catch Up On

I think I’ve said this before, but with my Twitter microblogging, I find that I have less to write about in my blog because I feel like it would be repetitive, even though I’m pretty sure my blog readers and my Twitter followers don’t overlap all that much.

First thing’s first: I don’t think I’ve linked to fmylife.com yet, so…there you go. It’s a great site with some really short, depressing stories (some NSFW – all text though, no pictures).

Last weekend was pretty awesome. I did a lot of hanging out and picture taking, and on that note, my new camera is awesome. I don’t have any videos worthwhile posting yet, but here’s a picture:

I really like that one – not because it’s an excellent display of my camera’s abilities or anything, but it’s just a good memory, I guess. That party was really, really fun and I’m pretty sure everyone had an absolute blast. I hadn’t seen Damien in a couple years, MCat in over a year, and Bates or Mikrish for a quite a few months. It was really nice to catch up with all of them and hang out with everyone that I do see pretty often. We talked and danced and listened to music pretty much all night. Good times.

The Sunday morning after the party, some of us went to The Chimes for brunch and…dear Lord, it was absolutely delicious. Words can’t even describe it. I had a Boudin Omelet which came with some delicious grits and a biscuit. Soooo good. *drool*

As usual, my week was pretty lame after that weekend, until I got some calls to set up a couple of interviews. I had those on Thursday and they went pretty well. I got called back for a second interview on Monday at one of the places, and I have another interview with a different place on Tuesday. At least I feel like I’m getting somewhere now.

Also, I’ve had a cold for a few days now, and it’s been pretty annoying. The good news is that I think it was at it’s worst on Wednesday. I’ve been getting lots of rest, since besides those interviews, all I’ve been doing is watching Dragonball Z (thanks to a heads-up from Keith that anime was on sale at Best Buy). I call it DBZ marathon therapy.

I baked a Funfetti cake yesterday. Mmmm.

That’s it. I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I have to go back to Jeice talking about throwing some ribs on the barbie now. :D

I Can’t Hear You

I started watching an anime with the weirdest premise last night. It’s called Akikan, and it’s about soda cans that turn into girls. Nope, this isn’t a joke – Japanese people are just that crazy. It’s actually pretty good though (and funny), I marathon-watched all 4 episodes that are currently out and I’m eagerly awaiting more (so I guess that makes me equally as crazy for watching it, eh? :P ).

I had another interview today in Houma. It went pretty well, from what I can tell, but it doesn’t really mean anything if the compensation sucks. I officially turned down the job at Computer Sales and Services today, and I’m going to officially turn down the job with the parish government tomorrow. It really annoys me that employers don’t post the salary with job listings, because when I turn down a job based solely on the pay, it wasn’t only a waste of my time, but also a waste of theirs.

Anyway, for the sake of my friends that are still in college, I sure do hope President Obama works his wizardry soon and fixes this economy (yes, that’s a bit of sarcasm, but it would be cool if it came true).

But hey, maybe I should have said Kryptonian superpower instead of wizardry…

Thanks, Internet.

You Know The Rules

And so does James Bond.

So, the wisdom teeth are coming out. This Friday, actually. Not excited at all.

Last week I planted a garlic clove in a plastic cup full of soil just to see what would happen, and right now it’s growing a sprout that’s about as tall as the cup and it split into two sprouts or whatever the heck you call it.

I saw this the other day on the corner of Highland and West Parker:

I mean, I saw The Dark Knight, and it was a good movie, but I’ve seen better this year. Then again, it was a good year for movies. Anyway, I didn’t think it was good enough for a random sign for a fake politician. If only people spent that much effort on real politics then maybe we wouldn’t have so many problems right now. :|

I hope no one needs styrofoam or boxes right now, cause we definitely have a lot of both at work…

…and I don’t feel like hauling them to anyone. :D

Whenever I graduate and leave ResLife, I sure am going to miss having some sort of authority and being back on the bottom again. Speaking of that, I think I might be submitting some resumés today. D:

You know, even though I don’t like the whole anime convention/cosplaying thing, I’m kind of looking forward to AWA. I’m not sure why, but I just have this feeling it’ll be different and might actually be a little fun. I mean, I always have fun spending time with my friends, but the conventions themselves are just a bunch of wandering around a bunch of smelly anime nerds and browsing through overpriced merchandise. Now I just have to hope that my fall schedule doesn’t ruin my chances of going, but I won’t know that until classes start.

Also, I wonder how many entries I’ve started off with the word “so”…

Righto

So there’s an awful smell in our apartment right now. Kind of like some sort of fumes. Yesterday I had to chew gum to get the taste of it out of my mouth, and this morning it was still pretty bad. I hate crap like that, because you can’t ignore it. It sort of makes me glad I’m working so long today. I don’t have to go back to that crap soon.

In other news, I spent the last few days with Michelle, which was nice seeing as how I haven’t seen her for more than a couple hours alone for about two weeks thanks to one of her stupid coworkers that finally got fired. But now Café Milano is low on kitchen staff so she still has to work a lot, so if anyone that reads this feels like working for the parish president of Terrebonne Parish, go apply there.

Unless you’re crazy.

We tried to go to Blue Bayou, but it looked like rain and the lines were long (on Monday, of all days), so I don’t guess we’ll be doing that this year. Shame.

I got an A in Computer and Network Security and a B in History. Hooray. :D

Also, as much as I do not like cosplaying, anime conventions, and nearly everything that goes along with afforementioned nerddom, Michelle finally got me to agree to do one costume: Gene Starwind. She is going to be Melfina, and since Becca likes Outlaw Star, I believe she wants to be Twilight Suzuka. The only reason I am doing this is for Michelle, and I’m not asking anyone else to do this with us unless they want to. This is most likely the only costume I’ll ever do, whether or not I find it enjoyable. I already have an expensive hobby (I’M A COMPUTA) and I definitely don’t need or want another one.

Despite all of that though, I do plan to at least try to do Gene very well. Even though he’s tanner and muscular. :\

Three Things

One: I’ve been watching this drama/romance anime called “Bokura ga Ita.” I really like it so far; only on episode 5 though.

Two: I’ve been having this stupid song stuck in my head, thanks to my coworker, Eric.

Three: I had a #3, but I forgot it when I wrote #2, cause that song took over my head. So instead, I’m just going to pimp my forum again. We’ve got about 11 unique members so far, though maybe 4 or 5 of them are active. It’s not super awesome or anything, but, if you’re reading this, it can be better if you join and post. :D

Total Randomness

I’m not sure why, but I feel the urgent need to blog about something right now. Nothing particularly interesting has happened lately, so bear with me; this will probably be really random.

I think you should have to pass a speaking test to be a teacher at any level, kindergarten – university. If you talk in an uneducated or hard to understand way…you’re gone.

I learned that China didn’t have drive-thrus until 2005, when McDonald’s opened the country’s first one. Apparently the Chinese had no idea how to use it, either. I guess they don’t watch enough American TV. :P

The stupid display on the head unit in my car keeps coming on and off, mostly off. I wish it would quit and just stay on.

I wish Viz wasn’t so anal about their licensing of Death Note, because that episode that I fake-fansubbed was really fun and I’d love to do more and get them out there somewhere.

I can’t wait until this summer because I want to go to the beach! :D

Well, I guess that’s enough randomness for now.

Everything Since My Last Update

Settle down, this one might be long.

I went back to Michelle’s house on Christmas day and we exchanged gifts. I got a bunch of awesome stuff from her and her mom that I really like, including an Apple Wireless Keyboard from her and a bluetooth headset, two cool shirts, and a poster from her mom.

When it turned 12 that night, I wished her a happy anniversary and gave her a promise ring. I couldn’t wait to give it to her, and I surprised her because I think she was expecting for me to give her one on Valentine’s day from some things I’ve said in the past. :P

On the 26th (after we went to sleep and woke up again) we hung around her house, went to Amanda’s so she and Shai could exchange presents with Michelle.

The 27th was when we left for Destin. We met Keith, Becca, Ashley and Nick at the Waffle House in Boutte and ate lunch, and then exchanged some gifts in the parking lot. Then we got gas and left for Florida. The drive there was pretty uneventful except for some awesome dancing and singing by Michelle :D . I could’ve easily found Destin without my GPS, but I used it anyway. The hotel was really nice (I mean, well, I hope it was since it was a Hilton). The beach was absolutely gorgeous and it was even warm enough to swim, even though we didn’t. So, before I get into what we did, here’s a quick convention overview:

-The con was small.
-I’m not even sure why I bought a convention badge since I didn’t do anything convention related besides go in the small dealer’s room to look around, and look at the costume contest, and I only did that because Keith and Becca and Ashley were in it.
-I met Michael Sprayberry from HGCX and talked to him for a while.
-Someone remind me not to go to conventions anymore next time I say I’m going, I just want vacations. ><

The day we got there we went to eat at TGI Friday’s, which Keith and Becca and I wanted pretty badly. The slushies weren’t as good as I remembered them looking when we last went to TGIF in Dallas for AKon, but the food was still delicious. I think we went to the beach that night, and it was so nice. I freaking love the beach.

The next day we did a little con stuff. Got our badges, some cosplayed (of course, I didn’t), and I think we went back to the beach (freaking yes, lawl). We ate at Fudpucker’s because we couldn’t find another restaurant we wanted to go to (though I wanted to go to Fudpucker’s anyway).

Saturday while everyone else was at the convention, Michelle and I went to the Silver Sands shopping outlet. It was a lot of fun. :D I bought her some stuff from the Disney Character Store and some gelato smoothies, which were good but didn’t taste like smoothies. She bought her dog some chocolate dipped dog treats and me a really nice sweater from Banana Republic. I bought a new beanie that I actually like better than my old one so far and a long sleeve undershirt. That Banana Republic outlet was freaking awesome. We went to some other places in the outlets but didn’t buy anything. We headed back towards the hotel and stopped at a little strip mall nearby. We had some chocolate dipped strawberries at a little candy store and then I bought Michelle a new cross necklace. Then we went back to the hotel and went and walked on the beach for the first time in daylight, since the other two times were at night. It was all sorts of awesome. We went in the water a little bit and took pictures (I might post some later :P ) and found some cool shells and stuff. :D After that we went to the costume contest to watch Keith and Becca and Ashley, and though they had really good costumes, they didn’t win anything (apparently the judges were known to be easily bribable). We again tried to go eat at the place we couldn’t find on Friday, but it was closed, so we went to Carrabba’s instead. It was pretty good, despite Keith Carroll saying pretty much everything there was bad. That night we just packed and talked and stuff.

Random observation: On the entire trip, I saw about 40 Ron Paul signs and only one thing endorsing another candidate, an Obama 08 bumper sticker.

The next morning we woke up, checked out, and sadly, left the Hilton for the last time. We went to eat at Cheeseburger in Paradise (which had a really nice men’s bathroom), and then left for Louisiana. I stayed at Michelle’s house until today (where her dad randomly decided to wash my car, lawl, FTW), when we went to go to my parents’ house for dinner and to visit. My new LCD panel for my phone came in, so we put that in, and now I can read my text messages again. And then, sadly, we left and I took her home, and then I left for Baton Rouge and I won’t see her again until Friday.

So. That’s the entirety of what I remember that was interesting since my last update. I had some other things I wanted to say but I can’t remember them right now, so perhaps I’ll update with that stuff later if I remember.

Oni-Con 2007

This weekend, as I’ve mentioned, was Oni-Con 2007 in Houston. We left Friday and got to the convention too late to get our convention badges, so the first day we did anything convention related was Saturday. Friday night we spent lounging around the hotel room.

The rest stop at the Texas state line, which we stopped at.

Keith Carroll being a Keith Carroll in our hotel room.

Saturday morning we went to the convention. Keith and I didn’t cosplay at all, though I think Mr. Carroll wishes he had. I had a perfectly good time not dressing up (I believe I’ve expressed in the past that I will not ever cosplay :D ). Michelle cosplayed Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) and Sakura (Naruto) and Becca cosplayed Ino (Naruto).

Becca put a wig cap on over her head. Keep this picture away from small children.

Michelle as Haruhi pulling on Laura’s (as Kyon from the same show) tie.

Becca and Michelle, respectively.

I didn’t really care about the con itself, I just went for the good times, which there were a lot of, but I did see some cool costumes.

This Master Chief, for example, was freaking awesome.

This Big Daddy from Bioshock was also awesome.

Saturday night we went to eat at the only other close place to eat that we could find, some random Italian place, which was actually really good, though our waitress kind of sucked. We didn’t go to the rave that night because out of the three of us that wanted to go or would’ve gone, we’d all pretty much changed our minds by the time we’d gotten back from eating. That’s not to mention that Michelle started feeling sick on Saturday and I seemed to have a lesser version of whatever she had.

Sunday we got up, grabbed our crap, checked out of the hotel, and went to the convention one last time. Laura made Michelle a costume for that day, Misa from Death Note, so she wore that, even though I don’t think she really wanted to by then.

Misa-Misa writing Keith Carroll’s name in her Death Note. :P

After that, we went back home, and thusly ended our weekend. I think we all had a good time, and we’ll be going to Anime South in late December, which I know I’ll like better because it’s Florida, and if you know me, you know I love Florida. :D

Also, all of the pictures I posted in this entry plus a lot more can be found here, in my Oni-Con gallery. As usual, click on the thumbnails to get the larger version of the photo.

Off Until Sunday Night

So I’ll be gone all weekend, starting tonight. Tomorrow I’ll be going to class with Michelle and then off to Baton Rouge to pick up Keith and Becca (I’m at Michelle’s right now). From there, we’ll be headed to Houston to hang out with all of the coolest nerds in the area :D . So, if anyone needs me, just text me, or if you really need me, call me. If you don’t have my number, it’s on Facebook. If you don’t have Facebook, then eff off. :D

By the way, my site is now completely compatible, or rather, optimized, for use with mobile browsers, or at least with pocket IE for sure, both back and frontend. So, if there’s Wi-Fi at Oni-Con, I may be posting random pictures, but don’t count on that, because I’m sure I’ll have better things to do.
